GENERAL Assembly Malaysia Sdn Bhd (GA Malaysia) yesterday honoured 500 participants for having completed the Malaysia Short-term Employment Programme 2021 (MySTEP 2021).

A collaboration between GA Malaysia and Pilihan Wibawa Sdn Bhd, the 12-week digital upskilling course was aimed to close the employment gap and support graduates with high-demand digital skills.

MySTEP 2021 provided the participants with skills in data analytics, user experience design, digital marketing, and training in coding and professional branding which will help them to adapt and flourish in the fast digitalisation era.

Khazanah Nasional Bhd ED of Strategic Human Capital Management Latifah Daud noted that regardless of the sector the participants choose to venture into, the programme was designed to equip them with high-demand skills which are crucial and sustainable for digitalisation.

Khazanah Nasional was the main partner and sponsor of the programme.

To date, Khazanah and its partners have trained and enhanced the employability of 6,000 young Malaysians through MySTEP 2021.

“The programme was challenging due to remote and online learning. However, many graduates have shown the resilience and courage to explore new fields that are far from what they have learned during university years,” she said during the virtual MYstep2021 graduation ceremony yesterday.

Meanwhile, GA Malaysia chairman Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Tuanku Muhriz (picture) acknowledged the graduates’ hard work to upskill themselves for the last couple of months despite the pandemic.

“So often, upskilling programmes are ‘one size fits all’ but GA Malaysia believes it is vital to offer individualised support to ensure the programme’s success.

“With the outcomes as our top priority, we strive to meet the different needs of the participants — whether it is rebuilding their confidence, helping them to realise their strengths or guiding them to potential career options given their circumstances,” he added.

Notably, over 50% of the graduates have already entered the job market and secured themselves placement in various positions.

MySTEP 2021 has also enabled participants to widen their understanding of the job scope beyond their field guided by a team of business experts, coaches and industry leaders.

Ren Khai Sia, a graduate in Computer Networking and Security said MySTEP 2021 helped him understand the importance of the digital discipline of Python Programming.

“The team and industry expert instructors motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and I found my true passion in the art of Python Programming,” Khai added.

Another participant Nurul Raihah Farhah Noorazil, who opted to venture into a digital marketing career, said that the programme had opened opportunities and connected her with industry experts.

“The programme has allowed me to learn and gain new related skills and experience from the instructors. The result speaks for itself as I am now working in digital marketing with them, as a team member of GA Malaysia,” she said.

Upon the completion of the programme, participants were matched with career opportunities and received guidance from GA Malaysia’s placement coaches, management team and senior industry leaders.
