THE most gratifying digital achievement of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) in 2020 was the transformation of the 20-year strong Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM) from a physical event into a digital version rebranded as Minggu Saham Digital that had been enjoyed by millions of Malaysians throughout the country.
The digital transformation of the event had the impact of expanding PNB’s reach considerably. Previously, less than 200,000 visitors on average participated in MSAM annually, the in-person week-long event that was held in different towns and cities across Malaysia. Now, Minggu Saham Digital has managed to attract millions of views when it was held virtually.
Minggu Saham Digital returned this year as part of PNB’s continuous efforts to empower Malaysians with financial literacy through the digital event’s unique and informative livestream programmes.
Themed #laburbersama, Minggu Saham Digital 2021 took place from Nov 17-23, 2021, with a wide range of edutainment programmes, from a series of informative webinars that focused on the importance of investing and financial planning, to more entertaining segments such as the grand virtual concert and casual talk shows featuring various celebrities.

According to Ahmad Zulqarnain, digital education programmes have the potential to reach broader audiences and therefore allow an all-inclusive national action plan
The daily activities were broadcast between 12.30pm and 10pm through Minggu Saham Digital’s official Facebook page and YouTube channel.
PNB’s President and Group Chief Executive, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn said: “The digitalisation of societies is growing in tandem with the need to deliver financial education digitally. Digital education programmes have the potential to reach broader audiences and therefore allow an all-inclusive national action plan.
“We must work on the implementation of digitalised and innovative tools that respond to technological evolution in the financial sector. It is crucial to provide a tailor-made approach to digital learning activities to engage society in teaching methods that mirror current technological systems.”
Minggu Saham Digital 2021 succeeded in garnering over five million engagements on livestream and the official Minggu Saham Digital social media platforms, while the live stream recorded 1.5 million views cumulated over seven days.

Minggu Saham Digital 2021 was jointly organised with PNB’s investee companies and corporate partners. Malayan Banking Berhad (MAYBANK), Sime Darby Plantation Berhad and UMW Holdings Bhd are the Rakan Premier partners. Sime Darby Berhad, Sime Darby Property Berhad, S P Setia Berhad, Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Berhad (Perodua) as Rakan Utama, while MNRB Holdings Berhad, Duopharma Biotech Berhad, Velesto Energy Berhad and Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Berhad (Prolintas) are in the Rakan category.
Ahmad Zulqarnain added PNB will continue its commitment to an integrated investment education agenda to produce a generation of Malaysians who are not only digitally literate, but also financially and investment literate.
The efforts in empowering Malaysians with enhanced financial literacy will continue via conventional methods as well as on new virtual platforms to engage with the younger, more tech-savvy audience. This will not only contribute towards uplifting economic wellbeing but to overall nation-building.
The enhanced financial literacy will empower Malaysians to make better financial decision for long-term overall well-being.
