PHARMANIAGA Bhd has handed over business zakat of RM3.5 million to the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) yesterday.
The handover was completed by Pharmaniaga chairman Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly to Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj, at Istana Alam Shah, Klang, witnessed by Pharmaniaga group deputy MD Mohamed Iqbal Abdul Rahman.
For the first nine months of this year, the Pharmaniaga said it has allocated as much as RM11.8 million to zakat institutions and asnaf groups throughout the country.
Total contribution to LZS is the largest so far, the company said.
“This is part of our commitment to the environmental, social initiative and governance (ESG) to eradicate poverty, hunger and improve the health and the community’s quality of life.
“For that purpose, the company has allocated a large amount of profits to fulfil zakat obligations and also support various activities to ensure that the less fortunate are not left behind when the country’s economic situation is gradually recovering,” Mohammed Shazalli said in the same statement.
“Pharmaniaga’s operations are based on values and responsibilities in adherence to Islamic teachings and ESG standards that will ensure business sustainability,” he said.
Apart from zakat, Pharmaniaga has contributed RM6 million to the government, as well as the less fortunate and the frontliners to combat the pandemic.
