Austria will enter a nationwide lockdown from Monday as a record spike in coronavirus cases threatens to overwhelm the country’s health care system. 

Speaking in Vienna, Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg also announced compulsory Covid vaccinations effective in February.

The moves are the most drastic yet by a Western European country to confront the current virus wave.
