GORDON Ramsay Bar and Grill is set to lay its table in early 2022, marking the multi-Michelin-starred chef’s entry into Malaysia and introducing a new era of classic British style to the Southeast Asian dining scene.

The striking new signature restaurant located at Sunway Resort in Kuala Lumpur marks the first Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill outside the United Kingdom, joining three existing restaurants in London’s Mayfair, Chelsea and Park Walk.

Sunway Group said the new partnership with Gordon Ramsay Restaurants is part of Sunway’s strategic vision to introduce world-class dining to Sunway City — which comprises three hotels, a theme park, retail mall, healthcare, residential spaces, and three universities.

“This represents a pivotal stage in the evolution and elevation of the Sunway Group, as it continually strives to raise the Malaysian hospitality industry to unprecedented levels of excellence,” Sunway said in a statement yesterday.

Upon opening, Gordon Ramsay Bar is expected to take guests into a world of upmarket elegance and understated opulence.

Notably, the interior design concept was overseen by Sunway Design chief principal designer, Nelson Yong which blends Gordon Ramsay’s British heritage with the grandeur that characterises the new look of Sunway Resort.

“Truly exceptional restaurants need to deliver a touch of theatre and Gordon Ramsay Bar will ignite the senses and create culinary journeys that will leave a lasting impression and live long in the memory,” it stated.

The restaurant will also bring the diners to a stroll along the chic streets of Mayfair, designer boutiques of Chelsea’s King’s Road, and vibrant lanes of Soho — dashing, daring and debonair of London at its finest.

Moreover, the wall is lined up with black and white images of British icons from the “Swinging Sixties”, including Rolling Stones, legendary fashion models Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton, and Sean Connery.

“These monochrome portraits by celebrated photographers Terry O’Neill and Arthur Steel will provide a real sense of refinement,” it said.

The restaurant also presents a series of distinct spaces, from the grand dining room with its polished walnut flooring, brass finishes and semi-private seating booths, to the glittering cocktail bar with floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic views of Sunway Lagoon.

Meanwhile, the vibrant red and dark green colour scheme juxtaposes the upbeat vibe of 21st century living with the timeless grace of a bygone era.

“Every element from the lighting, flooring and wall finishes to the tables, chairs, tableware and cutlery has been individually tailored to enhance the atmosphere, capturing the essence of the Gordon Ramsay Bar concept,” Sunway added.

For special occasions, a trio of private dining rooms — eight Mayfair, 10 Soho and 12 Chelsea will have distinct themes, including a red leather crescent sofa in one, a private kitchen that shutters down and James Bond’s style after-service for complete privacy.

Meanwhile, a dedicated wine cellar features an impressive selection of exquisite wines curated by the in-residence sommelier who will suggest perfect pairings for any occasion.

“Gordon Ramsay has a reputation for demanding the highest standards of culinary distinction, from sourcing the finest and freshest ingredients to presenting every dish with flair and finesse.

“These standards will be upheld at Gordon Ramsay Bar, where diners can select from an impressive menu that features prime cuts of the finest meat, dry-aged in-house, as well as British classics and some of this celebrated chef’s most famous signature dishes,” it further said.

Gordon Ramsay expressed excitement to introduce his restaurant to Malaysia and wanted to showcase all the concepts that were born in London and exude British sophistication.

“Gordon Ramsay Bar at Sunway Resort should be luxurious and opulent, a place to see and be seen, while also being refined and elegant.

“Most of all, it should reflect the passion for gastronomy that I know is so deep-rooted in Malaysian culture. I want to take our diners on a journey and I cannot wait to reveal this exceptional new restaurant soon,” said Ramsay in the same statement.
