KUCHING — Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will not object to any political party leaders from Peninsular Malaysia coming to campaign in the 12th Sarawak state election, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (picture).

However, he said these leaders would first need to undergo health screening and travel to Sarawak only if they are really healthy.

Speaking at a media conference in his office here, he said that apart from that, those arriving in Sarawak should also comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) stipulated by the Election Commission (EC) and relevant local authorities.

Commenting on GPS’ chances in the Sarawak polls, he said the coalition, which comprises PBB, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), was ready to retain its two-thirds majority in the coming state election.

“We are not trying to be arrogant and proud but our confidence stems from the excellent service provided by the GPS in governing the state because we always have the welfare of the people at heart, unlike the opposition parties which only appear during elections,” he said.
