Malaysia’s participation at Expo 2025 Osaka could promote economy, culture

MALAYSIA’S participation at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai in Japan will be a great opportunity to promote the country’s economy and culture.

Themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, the expo is scheduled to be held from April 13 to Oct 13, 2025, on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay.

During an online briefing last Friday, Japan International Exhibitions Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry director Sugano Masafumi said the expo would be a platform to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations by 2030.

It will also be the last expo to take place before the end of the SDG.

He added that the theme calls on every individual to think about their hopes and aspirations, empowering them to push forward to their full potential and create a shared vision of a sustainable society.

With 60 countries and five international organisations already confirming their participation and 28.2 million visitors expected, Malaysia has yet to give the final word of whether it will take part in the event.

Japan aims to attract the overall participation of 150 countries and 25 international organisations.

“In terms of business, some countries will focus more on the cultural and other aspects, while others might focus more on technologies, natural resources and industry.

“Malaysia can present solutions such as for sustainability, stability, equality of opportunity and social mobility,” Masafumi said.
