MALAYSIA International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) has reopened its business events programmes to the public while adhering to strict safety and security standard operating procedures (SOPs) in accordance with recommendations from the government and the World Health Organisation.
Mitec anticipates a significant increase in the country’s business events, which include exhibitions, meetings, congresses, incentives, conferences and trade shows, it said in a statement yesterday.
Mitec has acted as a catalyst for business events in the country and is fully equipped to host a variety of different types of events.
The newly constructed state-of-the-art convention centre is equipped with cutting-edge technology and features a variety of flexible layouts and amenities.
“As we reopen our centre, the safety of all patrons is our priority.
All staff are fully vaccinated and will ensure strict adherence to SOPs as prescribed by the government in the implementation of all events,” said Mitec acting chief executive officer Mala Dorasamy.
She also said Mitec’s Smart Trade Zone platform, which provides an integrated system for event organisers and exhibitors to manage their events and programmes, and co-working space for international buyers and media.
“Mitec is positioned in an enhanced transformation mode, encompassing a vision to service the local and international business events market with unique services and products. Being successfully viewed as an international exhibition venue, the centre is moving effectively in the direction of becoming an international multi-purpose trade, convention, exhibition and events centre,” she said.
Mitec collaborated with numerous organisations, including the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, throughout the pandemic to successfully operate the mega vaccination centre, which vaccinated over 12,000 people per day. Mitec also collaborated with the Malaysian International Trade Industry to operate as one of the Industrial Vaccination Centres, as well as with other organisations such as the Malaysian Association of Conventions, Exhibitions, Organisers, and Suppliers, the Business
Events Council Malaysia and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, among others.
“With the reopening of business events, we look forward to welcoming back all conferences and exhibitions. Mitec has contributed to strengthening SMEs and significantly contributed to job creation. We have generated more than 841,000 gig worker labour hours and created jobs for over 100,000 people since our inception,” Mala said.
Mitec is a major player in the country’s business events industry and was instrumental in the development of KL Metropolis.
Arte Mont Kiara and Somerset Metropolis now offer hotel and service suites within walking distance from Mitec. They will be completed by 2023, enabling Malaysia to compete on a global scale and meet growing market demands.
