Both governmental and non-governmental organisations must mobilise to develop strategies in order to accelerate digital inclusion, as connectivity must become the top priority of stakeholders, says Multimedia and Communications minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
“The government will ensure that technology adoption and innovation will be the building block to spur growth across all sectors.
“The adoption of advanced technology, particularly the fourth Industrial Revolution technology, will be promoted in a high technology-based economy,” he said during his special address at the Second Malaysia Digital Economy Summit 2021.
In 2018, the contribution of the digital economy to the national economy continued to expand at RM267.7 billion, registering a growth of 6.9%.
The information, communications and technology (ICT) services in 2017 recorded a gross output value of RM144.8 billion with the annual growth rate value of 7.8% per annum.
In line with the rapid growth in gross output, the value in intermediate output also increased by RM8.4 billion, resulting in value-added of RM74.3 billion, the highest annual growth of gross output, recorded by 9.9% for telecommunication services.
Income through e-commerce transactions meanwhile, recorded a value of RM447.8 billion in 2017, versus RM398.2 billion in 2015 with an annual growth rate of 6%, a figure expected to rise tremendously as e-commerce becomes a norm.
