THERE will be no more Covid-19 screening requirement for people who wish to travel to Langkawi effective today, says Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
The decision was made after taking into account the low percentage of tourists who were tested positive during the screening,/
He added that there was no Covid-19 cluster from the tourism bubble project in Langkawi.
“The decision is also in line with the lifting of interstate travel ban since Monday,” Khairy Jamaluddin said in a statement.
However the existing mandatory rules, such as complete vaccination for travelers to the island will remain.
A total of 54,341 tourists had undergone the Covid-19 screening test with only 216 or 0.4 per cent of tourists tested positive, while only one tourist experienced current symptoms in Langkawi and tested positive for Covid-19 through RT-PCR testing.
“Investigation found that the cause of the infection was not in Langkawi,” he said.
The Langkawi Tourism Bubble Pilot Project was implemented from Sept 16, with the government requiring every tourist to undergo a COVID-19 detection test before entering the island. –-TMR
