THE Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Mosti) is currently working with various ministries to ensure that the education system is able to face the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0)

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said Mosti (picture) will complement the efforts carried out by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Higher Education, as well as the informal sector on preparing ahead of the challenges brought by IR4.0.

“Mosti has various agencies that play an important role in technology development, including educational technology as requested,” he said in a written reply at Dewan Negara yesterday.

“Among the agencies involved is the Akademi Sains Malaysia. The agency is currently developing the ‘Malaysian Open Science Platform’ (MOSP) initiative, which is a digital platform for sharing research data at the higher learning institutions (IPT) or university level,” Adham said.

He added that the ministry is also embarking on the MOSP — a digital sharing platform of research data at IPT or universities. The pilot project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.

He also stated that Akademi Sains Malaysia is also collaborating with the National STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Centre under the MoE through the development of teaching and learning modules for STEM subjects through an inquiry-based science education pedagogy approach to STEM teachers.

“In this regard, the teacher’s role is to encourage students to explore the subject (STEM) creatively to increase their deep curiosity,” he added.

The Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre and the National Technology and Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) are tasked to encourage more local innovations related to education through the NTIS programme.

This is because education is one of the target sectors in line with the socio-economic drivers of the country under the 10-10 Malaysian Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy framework.

He added that coaching programmes are implemented by Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd for various technology start-ups and has funded a total of 11 technology start-up companies conducting tech-based education.
