SEVERAL travel operators have been operating without license and unregistered with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac).

Motac reported this after it monitored domestic tourism activities in Langkawi from Oct 1 to 3, 2021.

The monitoring was carried out at the sea and air entrance routes to Langkawi and other tourist attractions.

“Based on the survey conducted, there are tourists who use the services of tour operators who are not licensed and not registered with Motac.

“Most are seen to be more likely to book transportation tickets, lodging, and tour tickets in private,” Motac said in a statement today.

Among the locations monitored were Kilim Geoforest Park, Tanjung Rhu, Langkawi SkyCab, Langkawi Wildlife Park, Pantai Cenang, Langkawi International Airport and Kuah Langkawi Jetty Terminal.

Motac has advised the unlicensed operators to apply for a license to avoid action taken against them.

Motac also inspected tourist premises to see the latest developments in their business.

“We were informed regarding the flexibility provided by the government through Motac during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period. Among them are license renewal fee exemption, 40% compound reduction discount, and financial assistance from Pemerkasa and Pemulih,” it stated.

The survey also found that the majority of tourists who visited Langkawi were satisfied with the services provided by tour operators during their stay.

Motac said the monitoring aimed to ensure that Malaysians can travel to Langkawi safely and help in regenerating national income through domestic tourism activities.

“It is also in line with the target of attracting 400,000 tourists to Langkawi by December 2021. At the same time, the success of the Langkawi tourism bubble can be used as a benchmark to enable other tourist destinations to adopt similar standard operating procedures (SOP) and good management,” it added.

Motac urged the public to use licensed tour operators and always get the latest information or developments via its official website at www.motac.gov.my.
