Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has appointed Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin as its chairman effective today to replace Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid who was appointed as the Rural Development Minister with effect from Aug 30, 2021.
Hasan is a current member of parliament for Rompin and was appointed as chairman of Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd last year.
The former Deputy Menteri Besar of Pahang was also the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee from 2015 until 2018.
He was a board member of UDA Holdings Bhd from 2010 until 2015. From 1991 until 1995, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA).
He also chaired Pahang Agricultural Development Corporation from 1990 to 1999 and Southeast Pahang Development Authority Chairman from 1995 up until 1998.
Hasan holds a degree in Economics from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and completed a Management Course at the Asia Institute of Management in Manila, Philippines.
“I would like to thank the Finance Ministry for the trust and belief in me for my appointment as the chairman of TNB. As chairman, I am responsible to all shareholders and most importantly the trustees,” said Hasan in a statement today.
Given his vast experience in the corporate sector, Hasan added that he would continue the work of his predecessors who had ensured a fair and reasonable return to all shareholders through dividends while maintaining the practice of good governance, transparency and accountability.
He is also committed to maintain the long term goal of the management and the board in ensuring continuous appreciation of assets.
TNB President and CEO Datuk Ir. Baharin Din said on behalf of the Board of Directors, management and 35,000 employees of
TNB, the company welcomed the appointment of Hasan.
“His wealth of knowledge and experience will be instrumental in TNB’s on-going transformation initiatives and efforts to recover from the onslaught of Covid-19,” he said.
