Free Covid-19 test kits for Bukit Gasing residents

BUKIT Gasing residents who has symptoms or who has been in close contact with a Covid-19 patient will get free saliva test kits.

Bukit Gasing assembylman Rajiv Rishyakaran (picture) said this is part of his efforts, as an advocate for more testing to be done to curb the Covid-19 virus spread.

“Since November 2020, I have been advocating testing as the only way to curb the spread of COVID-19. This is why I initiated and set up the RTK-AG testing centre at Kompleks Rakan Muda in Petaling Jaya, and it has been operating now for 10 months,” he said in a statement today.

“In line with that, I would now like to offer free saliva test kits to any resident of Bukit Gasing. This is what the Ministry of Health should be doing to curb the spread of Covid-19, and I’m kick-starting this in Bukit Gasing. If testing when one is in doubt is free-of-charge, many more will be willing to test, and testing prevents the spread of Covid-19,” he added.

Each resident can collect one test kit from Kompleks Rakan Muda Petaling Jaya (Arena) for self-testing purposes.

The Arena is open everyday from 10am to 6pm.

This free test kit model is similar to what is being done in the UK. In the UK, anyone who wants to self-test, can order a test kit from the National Health Service (NHS) app and it will be sent to their house.

“Limiting social and economic activities is no longer viable but constant testing is a great alternative in ensuring that we do not have to go into lockdown mode in order to stop the spread of the virus,” Rajiv said further.

“I strongly believe that the Government has the capacity to make free testing available to everyone in Malaysia, if they are serious about curbing the spread of COVID-19. My capacity is limited as a state assemblyman, but the Ministry of Health should utilise its resources to make testing more accessible and affordable,” he added.
