HIGH rates of scams, bankruptcies and other financial stress are plaguing rakyat especially the young generation and the bottom 40% community, according to Malaysia Literacy in Financial Education Association (MyLIFE).

Its founding chairman Amy Seok said MyLIFE’s initiative began when they realised the current issues faced by young adults and underprivileged Malaysians struggling with financial issues brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Social changes can only happen through better understanding, raised knowledge and ethical practice.

“Admittedly, this is no simple task but the rewards are gratifying as it stands to elevate Malaysians’ approach towards a better understanding when it comes to financial literacy, particularly among the younger generation,” she said during the virtual launch of Keluarga Malaysia 2021 yesterday.

In conjunction with Malaysia Day, Yayasan Prihatin Nasional, MyLIFE, Federation of Malaysia Business Associations and uLearnMONEY are organising the Keluarga Malaysia 2021 will be organised from Sept 14 to 30, 2021, on an exclusive online platform smeefair.com.my/mymalaysia2021.

The joint organisers of the event have virtually launched their highly anticipated event, Keluarga Malaysia 2021, yesterday via Zoom and streamed on Facebook Live.

Riding on the theme of Spirit of My Malaysia, Financial Literacy for All, the national-level event aims to teach and raise the awareness and knowledge of all Malaysians on the importance of having basic financial knowledge, regardless of their age, race and background.

Equally important is to promote a united community and foster strong Malaysian unity.

Seok said Keluarga Malaysia 2021 will coincide with this year’s Malaysia Day on Sept 16, connecting all Malaysians through a platform of financial literacy.

“The event will begin on Sept 14, with the official launch set to be held live on the official online platform at 10am followed by many exciting and creative programmes thereafter for various age groups.

“Being one of the strong supporters and collaborators of the Financial Education Network, Keluarga Malaysia 2021 is a week-long event with a varied series of activities,” she added.

One of the main events under Keluarga Malaysia 2021 is the MyMALAYSIA Financial e-Fair, where visitors can visit interactive e-booths by exhibitors from various financial institutions on the SME e-Fair online platform.

“With Keluarga Malaysia 2021, we hope that the spirit of unity and good financial values can be taught and fostered amongst all Malaysians,” she said.

While Keluarga Malaysia 2021 is mostly finance-related, there are also non-finance-related activities to gather a wider audience and participation.

The Keluarga Malaysia Musical Concert will be a live online performance by talented musicians from all over Malaysia and will be held tomorrow from 8pm to 9pm.
