KUALA LUMPUR – Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Datuk Shabudin Yahaya (picture) has been appointed as the new chairman of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM).

AIM, in a statement today, said Shabudin replaced Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin, who died last month.

“With his experience and leadership, he will be able to helm AIM, which now has 356,024 Sahabat (members) to greater heights.

“Hopefully, this appointment can further enhance the role and function of AIM in an effort to help the government reduce poverty and improve the economic status of low-income households,” it said.

Shabudin, 56, has served as a Syariah Court judge prior to his appointment as Felcra Berhad chairman.

He was later appointed a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Parliament and Law during the Perikatan Nasional government.
