Covid cases in Selangor up to 4,371 after significant drop

A TOTAL of 20,897 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, up from Monday’s 19,268 cases, bringing the total number of infections in Malaysia to 1,746,254.

Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor’s cases went up to 4,371 after Saturday’s significant drop to 3,567 cases. This was followed by Sabah (2,594), Sarawak (2,285), Johor (2,159), Kedah (1,942) and Penang (1,732).

“Kelantan recorded 1,479 cases, followed by Perak (1,204), Kuala Lumpur (1,003), Pahang (798), Terengganu (608), Melaka (417) and Negri Sembilan (215).

“Meanwhile, three states recorded fewer than 100 cases, namely Perlis (64), Putrajaya (25) and Labuan (one),” he said.

Of the 20,897 daily cases reported yesterday, a total of 422 cases (2%) were from categories 3, 4 and 5. While another 20,475 cases (98%) were from categories 1 and 2.

Daily fatalities were 282 cases, raising the country’s death toll to 16,664.

Yesterday’s death cases involved 139 cases in Selangor, 52 cases in Johor, 21 cases in Kuala Lumpur, 15 cases in Sabah, 12 cases in Penang, 11 cases in Kedah, nine cases in Kelantan, seven cases in Pahang, five cases in Melaka, three cases each in Negri Sembilan and Perak, two cases in Terengganu and one case each in Perlis, Sarawak and Putrajaya, while 18,465 patients have recovered from the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, National Security Council DG Datuk Rodzi Md Saad said two localities in Sabah and Pahang will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from Sept 2 to 15.

“The affected localities in Sabah are Kampung Narawang and Kampung Mininsalu Baru (Pasir Putih) in Ranau.

“In Pekan, Pahang, the localities are Kampung Badong Dalam and Kampung Permatang Durian in Bebar district,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Rodzi also said the EMCO for Taman Ria Height in Tawau, Sabah, scheduled to end Sept 1, has been extended until Sept 15.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at Felda Jenderak Utara, Kuala Krau, Temerloh and Ladang Selbourne in Pahang, as well as eight other localities in Sabah has been lifted effective today.

The Sabah localities are Kampung Payas-Payas, Kota Belud, Beverly Hills Fasa 3 and Regency Park in Penampang, Kampung Iburu and Kampung Meligan in Sipitang, Kompleks Baiduri Ayu Felda Sahabat 9, Lahad Datu and Perumahan Pekerja Ladang Moynod 1, Beluran.

He added that the EMCO at Kampung Kulambai, Kampung Kulambai Kupang and Kampung Kulambai Dundau in Kota Belud, Sabah, also ends today, earlier than scheduled (Sept 4).
