PRIME Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced his Cabinet line-up, consisting of 69 ministers and deputy ministers.

Ismail Sabri’s team has the same size as his predecessor Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration, with 70 headcounts including the PM post, which was heavily criticised as a “bloated Cabinet”.

The new Cabinet members, which had been presented to the King for His Majesty consent yesterday, also largely feature similar names and to their designation in the fallen Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Ismail Sabri did not enlist a deputy PM but having four senior ministers, namely Senior Minister (International Trade and Industry) Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali; Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein; Senior Minister (Works) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; and Senior Minister (Education) Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

Finance minister role goes to Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

The PM said he would emphasise high performance working culture in the Cabinet with short- and long-term plans.

He said every ministry would need to prove their initial achievement in the first 100 days.

“This Cabinet line-up is selected from a combination of those experienced, believed to be able to help the country revive the economy by supporting entrepreneurs, simplify the way of business, and revitalise economic activity and increase investor confidence,” Ismail Sabri said in a text speech today.

He also said the new Cabinet, which serves the so-called “Malaysian family”, a new mantra he coined, would be more open and in tune with the national aspiration through more efficient service delivery and information.

The Cabinet line-up also appeared to be free from personalities implicated with court cases, also known as the “court clusters”.

The sworn-in ceremony is scheduled to be held on Monday, August 30, at 2.30 pm at the National Palace.
