Mahdzir Khalid resigns as Chairman of TNB upon Ministerial appointment

Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid resigned as Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Bhd following his new appointment as Minister of Rural Development, TNB noted in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.

The newly minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced his new line-up of Cabinet today.

Mahdzir Khalid, 60 was appointed as TNB chairman on 12th May 2020. 

He replaced Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir who was appointed the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) Chairman on 1st May 2020.

Previously he was the Deputy Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water from May 2013 to July 2015, before being appointed as the Education Minister until 2018. 

The former Kedah Menteri Besar from December 2005 to March 2008 holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and sat as Chairman of Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) and Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA).

He also held the position as Deputy Chairman of Tourism Promotion Malaysia, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.
