Govt retiree pleads not guilty to CBT involving RM1.77m

ALOR SETAR – A government retiree pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge with committing criminal breach of trust (CBT), involving more than RM1.77 million, belonging to a Siamese temple, five years ago.

San Yap s/o Din Ei Yat, 71, made the plea before judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid.

The former enforcement head of a government agency in Perlis was charged with committing the offence at Wat Boonyaram, Padang Sera, Kodiang, in the district of Kubang Pasu, between March 7 and Oct 25, 2016.

The charge, under Section 406 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 10 years and whipping, and liable with fine, upon conviction.

The court allowed San Yap, who was unrepresented, bail of RM15,000 with one surety and set Sept 26 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nurul Suhaila Baharin prosecuted.
