PN parties remain support for Muhyiddin

ALL parties under Perikatan Nasional (PN) are committed to supporting Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (picture) as the Prime Minister following a meeting held yesterday among PN leaders, chaired by the PM.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said he did not attend the meeting as he was not part of the party’s leadership council.

“From what I understand and was informed, all parties under the PN will continue to give their support to Tan Sri Muhyiddin as PM,” he said during a virtual media briefing today.

Muhyiddin had called for a meeting with party leaders that made up the PN government following a pre-Cabinet audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah yesterday.

Commenting on the Cabinet meeting that was also held yesterday, he said there was no discussion on bringing forward the next Parliament session which is scheduled to be on Sept 6, 2021.

The Parliament session will be crucial amid the current scrutiny on the legitimacy of Muhyiddin’s administration as the PM had previously said he will prove he still has the majority via a vote of confidence that will be pushed in the next sitting.

“The definite for the confidence vote as of now is September 7. But in politics anything is possible and I think Tan Sri Muhyiddin is cognisant of the importance of the vote.

“He understands there are people who want this vote to be organised earlier than that but all I am saying is for now, as far as the notice issued by the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, it will be on Sept 7,” he said.
