Wan Junaidi: Ease in restrictions for fully vaccinated individuals will benefit SMEs

RESTRICTION relaxations for fully vaccinated individuals are likely to reinject the country’s entrepreneurial sector, says Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC) Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (picture).

“The announcement is the right step to assist Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs in mobilising their businesses during this difficult period, as SMEs rely on the support of people or consumers to stay afloat,” he said in a statement today.

He added that MSMEs have a big impact on the country’s socio-economic development. There were about 1.15 million MSMEs in the country last year.

“MSMEs also account for about half of all jobs in the country, employing approximately 7.3 million people,” Wan Junaidi said.

According to the newly released SOP relaxation, people from states in Phase Two and above of the National Recovery Plan will be able to dine in and participate in tourism activities.

“This decision will shine a light on the entrepreneurs working in the food industry especially restaurants or eateries as well as those who are running a tourism business such as homestays,” he said.

He added that the government’s efforts to ramp up the vaccination rates have already yielded impressive results.

“It is clear that the public has also responded positively to the call for vaccination. It is hoped that SMEs are no exception from getting the vaccines,” he said.
