THE Health Ministry said 85 positive Covid-19 cases were detected between July 26 until July 29 in Dewan Rakyat.
“56 cases were identified as a result of Pre-Dewan Rakyat screening and four close contact cases; 17 related cases were detected during the Dewan Rakyat sitting and five new cases were reported between July 30 to Aug 5 as well as three close contact cases and eight Pre-State Assembly screening cases,” Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
He said to-date, six samples that were likely to be Delta variants have been detected and the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) is currently conducting whole genomic sequencing to confirm the variant and is still awaiting the final results.
Dr Noor Hisham said the results of the investigation found that it is very likely that the sharing of basic facilities such as toilets and prayer rooms by many individuals has caused the spread of Covid-19 infection in Parliament.
“MoH will continue to monitor the health status of all these Covid-19 positive cases, close contacts and other new cases as they are likely to be reported as they are still in the incubation period,” he said.
