Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah today announced his resignation from the Cabinet.

Shamsul said as an Umno member who is loyal to the party, he takes into account some of the party’s decision and stances.

“My focus now is on duties as a Member of Parliament for Lenggong and strengthening Umno in facing the challenging political situation,” he said in a statement.

Shamsul thanked Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for appointing him to the Cabinet  and Umno’s leadership whom he believes proposed him to become the federal minister.

On March 28, Shamsul said he is ready to quit his post if that is the decision made by his party Umno.

Meanwhile UMNO MPs has announced withdrawal of support from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Perikatan Nasional government.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahidi said that the statutory declaration has been presented to the King:

“UMNO has chosen to take a stand in favour of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and will not defend the government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Md Yasin which has failed in the eyes of the people.

“To show the party’s undivided loyalty to Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Supreme Council has unanimously agreed to withdraw support for the PN government and Tan Sri Mahiaddin as the Prime Minister,” he said in a virtual press conference.

He added that the SDs have been presented to the King in a recent audience, which will nullify Muhyiddin’s position as the PM.
