Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases reach an all time high with 17,786

MALAYSIA’S Covid-19 cases reached an all time high of 17,786 surpassing the previous record of 17,405 reported on Wednesday.

Up to 165 deaths were reported, pushing the number of total fatalities to 9,024. From the new deaths, 12 were brought in dead.

The number of active cases rose to 189,609 with 1,062 are currently being treated in the ICU and 534 on ventilators.

However, 11,718 patients have recovered, taking the number of cumulative recoveries to 914,639.

More states reported more than 500 cases, signalling the Covid resurgence is now widespread nationwide.

While Selangor continued to top the daily new infections with 6,400, Kuala Lumpur detected a total 1,962 cases in the past 24 hours.

This is followed by Kedah which saw its positive cases rise to 1,389, Johor (1,144), Sabah (1,035) and Negeri Sembilan (989).

The most significant increase was seen in Terengganu where 883 positive cases were reported, followed by Perak (775), Pulau Pinang (713), Melaka (697), Pahang (653) and Kelantan (580).

Since the pandemic outbreak in January 2020, Malaysia has now 1,113,272 positive Covid cases. —TMR
