Vaccination for retailers to expand to Johor and Penang soon

Minister urges the govt to expedite the vaccination for the retail sector frontliners to enable it to reopen earlier

FIVE Retail Industry Vaccination Programme (RIVAC) centres will start operations in the Klang Valley this week before the programme is expanded to other states. Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (picture) said the government is currently looking to expand RIVAC outside the Klang Valley, particularly in Johor and Penang soon.

For now, RIVAC centres are located at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur (KL); IOI City Tower, Putrajaya; Petaling Jaya Performing Art Centre, Bandar Utama; Centro Mall, Klang; and Maju Link, Bandar Tasik Selatan, KL.

“With the addition of the Industry Vaccination Centre, RIVAC will accelerate the objective of Operation Surge Capacity.

“RIVAC is crucial for the country to accelerate the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) which targets 100% of the Klang Valley population to receive at least the first dose of vaccination by Aug 1.

“I hope the RIVAC programme will help the government’s efforts to accelerate the rate of immunisation in the Klang Valley and throughout the country,” Nanta Linggi said.

RIVAC is part of the public-private partnership initiative between the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force, Mosti, retail industry players and the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association.

Nanta Linggi also urged the government to expedite the vaccination for the retail sector frontliners to enable the retail sector to reopen and fully operate earlier under the National Recovery Plan.

He said the retail sector is among the worst hit by the Movement Control Order (MCO) where almost the entire sector had not been allowed to operate except for essential services.

“The retail, distribution and services sectors are one of the economic sectors that play a very important role for the development of the country.

“Therefore, the ministry calls on all companies in the retail and distribution sector including supermarkets to join RIVAC and get vaccinations for their employees immediately,” Nanta Linggi said.
