Police sergeant pleads not guilty to bribery

KOTA BHARU – A police sergeant was charged in the Sessions Court here today with bribery, involving RM5,000.

Mohd Ameruddin Yusoof (picture), 29, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges before judge Zaman Mohd Noor.

He was charged with soliciting RM5,000 from a man as an inducement to release the latter’s two friends who were caught for alleged possession of ketum in Kampung Lembah Semerak, near Pasir Puteh, at about 1pm on April 1, 2019.

The policeman, who is with the Pasir Puteh district police headquarters, was also charged with accepting the money from the same man for the same purpose in Bandar Baru Pasir Puteh at about 6.50pm on the same day.

He was allowed bail of RM8,000 with one surety and also ordered to surrender his passport to the court, as well as to not intimidate the witness.

The court set Aug 24 for mention.
