LESS than a week after reporting 153 deaths due to Covid-19, Malaysia’s daily deaths reached a new record of 184 as of noon today.
Total number of fatalities now stood at 7,902 and it is expected to breach the 8,000 mark tomorrow.
Active Covid-19 cases currently being treated nationwide also hit a new record of 153,633 with 950 patients are treated in the ICU and 468 of them intubated.
The Malaysian Reserve reported earlier that Malaysia identifiedalmost 16,000 cases as of noon today, with 15,902 record-breaking new infections detected within 24 hours.
Today’s record surpassed yesterday’s tally of 15,573.
More than 9,000 cases were identified in Klang Valley, with Selangor reaching another record high of 7,351 and Kuala Lumpur 2,406 cases.
Covid resurgence is seen nationwide with seven states reported above 500 cases, including in Kelantan.
These states are Kedah (867), Johor (804), Sabah (712), Melaka (631) Negeri Sembilan (625) Pulau Pinang – 505 (41,524) Kelantan (502).
Yesterday, Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that up to 30 new clusters were caused by inter-state movements.
Malaysia has now 996,393 positive cases since the pandemic broke in January 2020.
Up to 9.471 patients have recovered, pushing the number of recoveries to 834,858.
