Covid-19: 12,541 new cases, 7,054 in Klang Valley

MALAYSIA recorded 12.541 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, with more than 7,000 detected in the Klang Valley.

Selangor reported a total of 5,512 new Covid cases, while Kuala Lumpur detected 1,542 new cases.

This brought the total positive cases in the Klang Valley to 7,054.

Negeri Sembilan saw its cases remain high with 1,619, followed by Johor with 609 cases.

There are now 893,323 detected Covid cases in the country since the pandemic broke in January last year.

Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that up to 97 per cent of these new cases were under Category 1 and 2 – where the symptoms would be mild or asymptomatic.

There were 86 patients in the Category 3 (pneumonia), 49 in Category 4 (pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and 54 patients in the Category 5 (critical and requiring assisted ventilation).

A total of 115 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, pushing the number of cumulative fatalities to 6,728.

However, 6,742 patients have recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 772,542.

There are now 11,4053 active cases nationwide, with 896 patients in the Intensive Care Units (ICU) where 459 are intubated. –TMR
