KUALA LUMPUR – The conditional loan write-off agreement is fair to the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and the settlers.
Felda posted on its Facebook page yesterday that the board agreed to waive part of the settlers’ debt as at Dec 31, 2019.
“The write-off is based on the condition that the settlers must send the produce or hand over the plantation management to Felda. The settlers are still allowed to manage their own farm provided they send their full harvest to Felda,” the statement said.
It added that the settlers would also be required to pay the monthly loan instalments in full every month and implement farm management according to the methods, standards, good agricultural practices and standard operating procedures set by Felda.
Felda said that the main objective of writing off the loans as announced in conjunction with the Felda Settlers’ Day 2021 celebration was to implement togetherness between Felda and the settlers through a sustainable farm management system.
The initiative, it said, would directly benefit all settlers, especially in terms of income.
The statement said settlers who are still unclear can contact the Felda complaints website at felda.spab.gov.my or WhatsApp at 012-2594214.
During the Felda Settlers’ Day 2021 celebration, which was aired live via Facebook on July 7, Muhyiddin announced that the government had agreed to write off part of the Felda settlers’ loan worth RM8.3 billion as an initiative to revive the 65-year-old organisation.
