CITF, telcos to speed up NCIP success

THE National Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has partnered several telecommunications companies to ensure the success of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP).

CITF said in a statement yesterday, several telecommunication companies (telcos) such as Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Maxis Communications Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, TIME dotCom Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd came forward to take part in the initiative.

“As a corporate partner of CITF, one of the key initiatives that have been and are being implemented by these telcos is to assist in the provision of Internet network infrastructure (connectivity) in all vaccination centres (PPVs) in Malaysia.

“The telcos will ensure that the PPVs are not only equipped with Internet access, but the network capacity is also increased,” it noted.

According to CITF, the short message service (SMS) notifications sent to the public for vaccination appointments was also another result of the collaborations with these telecommunications companies that started since April 5.

It noted that this SMS notification will be received by individuals who have registered to receive their Covid-19 vaccine through the NCIP.

Apart from that, CITF said the telcos involved also play a role in disseminating information about the NCIP as well as encouraging registration to receive the Covid-19 vaccine through the announcement platform such as official websites, social sites, applications and customer service centres respectively.

“CITF would like to express its deepest appreciation to telecommunication companies in Malaysia on the willingness, initiative and a very positive response to the NCIP’s outreach campaign in heading the objective of achieving 80% herd immunity and protecting the population of the country,” it added.
