LEONG Hup International Bhd has planned to have 280 Baker’s Cottage stores by 2023, contributing 6% to the group’s yearly revenue.
ED Datuk Lau Joo Hong said the company would focus on the expansion of Baker’s Cottage channel this year, aiming to have 160 fully operational stores by year-end.
He said the business-to-consumer (B2C) channel has been well received and garnered strong growth from its 136 current outlets.
The country’s largest integrated poultry producer offers the cheapest roasted chicken in the market and also carries slice cakes, ice cream cakes, and fried chicken in its stores.
“The group will look into the expansion of these stores in mainly rural areas nationwide across the country. One of the main reasons for this is the rental cost, which is relatively cheap at around RM2,000.
“Of course, the Klang Valley is still important, but we will now look into areas in Kedah, Penang, and Pahang,” he said after the company’s AGM today.
At present, Lau said Baker’s Cottage contributes about 3% to the revenue, recording more than RM400 million.
