SATUN (Southern Thailand) – Thai authorities seized about 1.2 tonnes of heroin and methamphetamine worth about 1 billion baht abandoned in a mangrove forest near Malaysia-Thai border in Satun province.
In a statement, Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre (Thai-MECC) Region 3 said during a joint patrol, the authorities discovered the drugs wrapped in newspapers in 39 plastic fruit and vegetable crates scattered near a mangrove forest in Khlong Tammalang, Muang district on Thursday.
“Initial investigation found the drugs were dropped off by traffickers and later it was to be picked up by another group for delivery.
“The drugs are destined for third country,” it said.
Local media reported that the seizure, one of the largest drug hauls in Satun province, is believed for delivery to Malaysia.
