Covid-19: 5,150 cases, 7,240 recoveries

MALAYSIA’S total number of recoveries from Covid-19 has reached 89.29% while the total active cases account for 10.1% as of yesterday.

The number of new cases slightly declined to 5,150, bringing the country’s total cases to 673,026.

Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that active cases are now 67,943, of which, 924 patients were admitted into intensive care units while 453 required breathing aids.

Selangor again topped the daily cases list with 1,914, followed by Negri Sembilan (607), Sarawak (570), Kuala Lumpur (480), Johor (392), Kelantan (230), Kedah (228), Sabah (184), Melaka (152) and Labuan (101).

Yesterday saw around 7,240 recoveries, making the nation’s total recoveries at 600,935. However, 73 Covid-19 deaths were reported, bringing the total fatalities to 4,142.

Separately, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Phase One of the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) has shown positive signs as daily cases have successfully lowered from a record high of over 9,000 cases in May to Tuesday’s 5,419 cases.

In a statement, he said from June 6 to 14, the National Security Council has received a total of 266 complaints by category that require enforcement action from various ministries/agencies.

“Of that number, the highest number of complaints recorded involved violations of the instruction limit on the percentage of employee attendance to the employment premises, which was 62 complaints, 50 non-essential complaints and 45 complaints about the category of non-compliance of the standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he said.

Meanwhile, the Enhanced MCO (EMCO) will be implemented at several localities in Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak from June 18 until July 1.

The to-be EMCO localities in Sabah are Kampung Bukit Gemuk and Kampung Tanjung Batu Keramat in Tawau, Etara Housing, Jalan Agaseh in Lahad Datu, and Kampung Landung Ayang and Taman Lavender in Kudat.

However, only Perumahan Awam Desa Rejang in Kuala Lumpur and Kampung Serikin, Bau in Kuching, Sarawak, will be enforced the EMCO.

The EMCO has ended as scheduled today at 13 localities around Pekan Bayan Lepas in Penang, Mukim Pekan, Kunak and SMU Pantai Manis, Papar.

Authorities also arrested 841 individuals for defying the lockdown’s SOPs and of the total, 821 were compounded and 20 remanded.
