A total of 1.6 million passenger movements were recorded in May by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
According to a filing from Bursa yesterday, MAHB registered 467,000 international passenger movements and 1.1 million for domestic passenger movements.
“Malaysia’s overall passenger movements registered 471,000 passengers in May 2020, an increase of 98.4% against a low base month last year. International and domestic sectors registered 75,000 and 396,000 passenger movements respectively,” it said.
Meanwhile, Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokchen International Airport (SGIA) recorded an increase of 1.1 million passenger movements in May last year.
From the total amount, 398,000 involved international passenger movements while 726,000 were domestic passenger movements.
This is despite flight restrictions and renewed stringent measures conducted by both Malaysian and Turkish authorities to control the spread of Covid-19 infections.
“There was evidence of pent-up demand whenever travel restrictions were lifted or partially relaxed with a decline in Covid-19 cases. There is also some optimism for normalisation as both Malaysia and Turkey attempt to ramp up vaccine programs by this year,” said MAHB.
The group has recorded a total of 26.6million passenger movements over the same corresponding period last year on a twelve-month basis.
