KUALA LUMPUR – Founder and chief executive officer of Aerodyne Group, Kamarul A. Mohamed (picture) has been nominated as one of the 38 finalists in the running to win the Ernst and Young (EY) World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) Award, Class of 2021.
Kamarul, 53, is Malaysia’s only representative in the world’s most prestigious business awards programme for entrepreneurs, awarding visionary leaders that have successfully delivered innovation, growth and prosperity to transform the world.
“I am truly and humbly honoured to have received the EY Entrepreneur of The Year 2020 award as well as the Tech Entrepreneur category in March.
“Today, I represent Malaysia for the coveted EY World Entrepreneur of The Year 2021, competing against some very formidable champions of the world,” he told Bernama.
Kamarul said that despite having the odds stacked against him, he is proud to bring Malaysia to the world stage.
Kamarul was earlier named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2020 Malaysia and EY Technology Entrepreneur Of The Year 2020 Malaysia from among 15 top nominees vying for the title.
He founded Aerodyne in 2014 and has grown the company into a world-leading drone-based enterprise solutions provider and a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence as an enabling technology for large-scale data operations, analytics and process optimisation
Since its inception, Aerodyne has pivoted into data intelligence, integrated solutions and Drone Technology, Data Technology and Digital Transformation (DT3) to accommodate the ever-changing market and is ranked second in the world by Drone Industry Insights of Germany.
To date, Aerodyne employs over 450 drone professionals to operate on an unprecedented level in the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) services sector, having managed more than 320,000 infrastructure assets with 110,000 flight operations and surveyed over 120,000km of power infrastructure across 35 countries.
Simultaneously, Aerodyne’s investor, VentureTECH’s managing director Dr Norida Abd Rahman revealed that Kamarul is an extremely inspiring man and a fine role model for our local entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year global awards programme celebrates entrepreneurs through regional and national awards programmes in more than 145 cities in over 60 countries, before competing for the WEOY.
