Celcom Axiata Bhd’s (Celcom) experienced improved operational profitability and growth in revenue in the first quarter of financial year 2021 (Q121) adding more than one million subscribers over the last 12 months.
Celcom CEO Idham Nawawi said the telco demonstrated business agility and adapted to new normal in its trade and distribution operations, resulting in growth in new customer acquisitions.
Celcom recorded revenue growth of RM84 million or 5.4% growth year-on-year (YoY) in the quarter while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation grew by total RM142 million or 27.6% higher YoY in the quarter.
“Excluding one-off impact from accelerated depreciation of 3G assets, profit after tax and minority interests rose 13.2% on the back of improved performance together with lower net finance costs,” he said at a virtual Celcom Q121 business performance media briefing today.
The telco added 317,000 new subscribers on a quarter-on-quarter basis in the period.
