KUALA LUMPUR – Former national women’s hockey coach Muhammad Dharma Raj Abdullah (picture) has been appointed Indonesian national team technical director and his contract is from June 1-December 2025.

The latest development will see Muhammad Dharma, who confirmed this after a meeting with the Indonesian Hockey Federation today, stepping down as technical director of the West Java provincial team, a post he has held for the past 10 months.

When contacted today, Muhammad Dharma, 51, said that his initial task would be to gather the best field and indoor hockey players in Indonesia, including naturalised players, so that they could form strong teams to compete on the international stage.

He added that two international meets, namely the Indoor Asia Cup 2021 to be held in Thailand in November and the AFH Cup in Indonesia in December, would be the earliest battlegrounds for him to test the Indonesian teams, with the men’s side ranked 53rd in the world and their women counterparts ranked 36th.

He will also be tasked with creating a project squad, comprising mostly Under-12 players and with a sprinkling of players aged 13 to 15 in a mission to launch a global assault by 2032.
