SENIOR Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said currently there is no other way for the government to manage the pandemic than enhancing the SOP enforcement to save the people’s lives.
“No other way can be done so far except by increasing the enforcement because it’s actually for educating, not just merely punishments,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri said Malaysia’s infection rate (Rt) has risen to 1.2 compared to 0.8 recorded in mid-April.
“What the government is doing now is adding the restriction on the people’s movement to save lives
although a small number (of people) has not been able to accept it yet,” he added.
He noted that there are studies showing compliance with SOPs among Malaysians are still high, but maintained that the enforcement process is necessary as Malaysia is facing a third wave infection.
THE special National Security Council (MKN)on Friday had unanimously agreed to implement stricter SOPs on the economic and social sectors amid rising Covid-19 cases.
Malaysia today reported the highest number of daily infection with 6,976 cases.
