MUSLIMS should condemn Israel’s actions in seizing property belonging to the Palestinians, said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (picture).

“The world is witnessing the Israelis breaking every law disregarding human rights. This is something that all Muslims whether they are friend with Israel or not, should condemn,” Dr Mahathir said in a video statement posted on his official social media platform.

“I believe people in Malaysia and I myself condemn this dastardly act by the Isrealis in seizing property belonging to the Palestinians,” he said.

Prior to this, Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein also said Malaysia strongly condemns the incursion by the Israeli occupation forces and Israeli settlers against the Palestinian civilians and worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque that took place last Friday.

“Many Palestinians have been injured in the attacks. The targeted aggression against the worshippers during prayers in the final days of Ramadhan in Al-Aqsa Mosque is indeed contemptuous to all Muslims and humanity.

“Malaysia also strongly condemns all forced evictions of Palestinians from their homes, including those in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of East Jerusalem. Malaysia calls upon the international community to act swiftly and decisively to respond to the latest Israeli aggressions and Malaysia continues to stand in strong solidarity with the people of Palestine in the wake of the Israeli aggressions,” he said in a statement issued over the weekend.

According to an AFP report yesterday, the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that 90 people were wounded in Saturday’s clashes in Jerusalem, revising up their earlier estimate of 53.

AFP journalists in Jerusalem said Israeli riot police had fired rubber bullets, sound grenades and water cannon on Palestinians on Saturday, some of whom threw projectiles at the police. One officer received a head injury, said the police.

Last Friday, riot police stormed Al-Aqsa mosque compound, after they said Palestinians threw rocks and fireworks at their officers.

Meanwhile, PAS information chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad urges all parties in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Arab League and the entire Muslim world to take firm action and act in defence of the victims of atrocities committed by the Israeli Zionist regime in the holy month of Ramadhan.

“PAS also calls on all Muslims to pray to Allah for prosperity for our fellow believers there as a sign of our solidarity to defend the land of Al-Quds (Jerusalem),” Kamaruzaman said in a statement.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri also expressed similar sentiment, condemning the brutal attack on the people of the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in the occupied Jerusalem.

“I appeal to the international community, including the human rights organisations, the OIC, the League of Arab States and the entire Muslim world to act at once to protect the Palestinians and their holy places and stop any practices that violate the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the month of Ramadhan and the Judeo-Christian-Islamic identities of the city of Jerusalem, as well as its sanctities,” he said yesterday.
