Parti Pejuang Tanah Air women youth (Pejuanita) chief Nurul Ashikin Mabahwi demanded for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to suspend Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin from his post, while allowing an independent probe over the leaked audio clip involving the latter.
Nurul Ashikin said despite Hamzah’s admission on the audio clip where he was recorded of being involved in the appointment of police officer, there has been investigation by the police and the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Nurul Ashikin said Hamzah’s admission suggests that there is an element of power abuse, although Hamzah did claim that the matter of transfer of police officers are also within his purview.
“As such, we urge the investigation, which is free from any political intervention, to be conducted immediately against Hamzah. He must also be temporarily suspended from his job,” said Nurul Ashikin.
She said if the authorities kept mum over the issue, the integrity and public trust from the people to the police and MACC will be at stake.
Similar calls have been made by Pejuang Youth and Muda before.
On the same development, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi agreed with Umno Youth chief Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who called for the establishment of Royal Commision of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate the matter.
He also said the same RCI should be looking into allegations made by former Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas in his memoir that there may be some element of power abuse during the administration of Pakatan Harapan.
“The formation of RCI for both cases can regain the public trust towards the institutions and system that is protecting the rule of law and national security,” he said in a statement.
