A TEMPORARY road closure and traffic diversion located on Persiaran Kerjaya in Glenmarie, Shah Alam, was done to facilitate Gas Malaysia Distribution Sdn Bhd’s (GMD) gas pipeline replacement work.
The wholly owned subsidiary of Gas Malaysia Bhd said in a statement that the work was to replace a section of the gas pipeline which was previously damaged due to the construction activity carried out by a third party.
“The gas leak from the damaged pipeline had been contained earlier and is under control, and customers did not experience any gas supply interruption.
“The pipeline is vital in providing safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to various industrial, commercial and residential customers in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur,” it said.
It added that the situation is under control and safety is not to be compromised under any circumstances.
“We are working closely with the relevant authorities and will provide updated information. We regret any inconvenience caused,” it said.
It was reported earlier that there were preliminary reports received by the Energy Commission (ST) that the gas leak at the Light Rail Transit 3 construction site in Shah Alam was linked to the construction work there.
The ST noted that the real cause of the leak could only be ascertained after investigations are complete, and it plans to cooperate with all parties to ensure the safety of the residents in the area.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify the actual cause after it was informed of the incident on April 13 and that GMD, as the licence holder, is responsible for taking immediate action to rectify the situation.
“Repair works are being carried out and the ST has been informed that there were no casualties nor any disruption of gas supply to customers following the incident,” it said in a statement on Sunday.
