VOLVO Car Malaysia has officially unveiled the new facelift model of Volvo S90 Recharge T8.
The completely knocked-down assembled in Volvo’s Shah Alam facility is priced at RM339,315 on-the-road (OTR), RM30,000 cheaper than the original version partly due to the sales tax exemption.
The plug-in hybrid premium four-door, five-seat sedan also comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty.
The S90 Recharge T8 is built on the scalable product architecture platform and powered by Volvo’s Drive-E powertrain, supported by a T8 Twin Engine and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which is capable of producing 407hp and 640Nm of torque.
The facelift model features a powerful performance with lower CO2 emissions as its four-cylinder engine is combined with the electric motor, a feature that is also available in Volvo’s recent 90 and 60 series.
Its design incorporates a blend of minimalist design and stylistic cues which creates a premium image that is accentuated by Volvo’s key aesthetic features, such as the “Thor Hammer” LED headlight design, vertical chrome grille with the Volvo Iron Mark, and a bold and clean use of the Volvo spreadmark on the rear.
The S90 Recharge T8’s headlamps have been updated to bear a similar design to the recently launched Volvo S60 T8 R-Design, for both a luxurious and sporty looking car.
Volvo Car Malaysia marketing and PR director Akhtar Sulaiman (picture) said this new car is the embodiment of luxury for them and now with its recharged design, Volvo wants to redefine the concept of “travel in style” and showcase that “luxury” can also equate to “safety”.
“The fundamentals surrounding safety, design and performance are the same for this model as with any other Volvos. Through the dedication of our team, we are confident that this car checks all the right boxes to provide a premium driving experience.
“A plug-in hybrid that considers tomorrow without compromising today’s experience, the S90 Recharge T8 is luxury that makes a difference and is the perfect choice for people who embrace their uniqueness and stand out from the crowd,” he said.
Volvo would also be looking at its sustainability efforts and they hope that all their cars would be fully electric by 2030 and become a Climate Neutral company by 2040.
It also has a Scandinavian motif to enhance its interior and vertical air blades on each side of the Sensus user interface, perforated front seats and sunroof.
The tail lamps of the S90 Recharge T8 have also been updated that bear a similar design to the recently launched Volvo S60 T8 R-Design, thus marrying luxury with a little sportiness.
It also features two front USB outlets that allow for both Apple Carplay and Android Auto and a nine-inch portrait touch screen and in-car entertainment.
The highlight of the S90 Recharge T8 is its upgraded Bowers & Wilkins sound system which comprises 19 speakers with an output of 1,400W within its signature tweeter-on-top speaker.
The sound system also has different modes to choose from, which are the “Concert Hall” “Gothenburg Concert Hall” and “Jazz Club”.
According to Volvo Car Malaysia product manager Sharon Wong, they closely worked with the engineers at Bowers and Wilkins to develop the S90 Recharge T8’s sound system.
It comes with a chassis made out of boron steel for added body strength as part of Volvo’s standard safety features.
It combines with Volvo’s Intellisafe system, which equips the S90 Recharge T8 with Volvo’s latest technology such as the Blind Spot Information Systems, City Safety, Cross Traffic Alert, Front and Rear Warning and Mitigation Support, Lane Keeping Aid, Pilot Assist, a 180kph speed cap and many more.
The S90 Recharge T8 is available in five colours — Bright Silver, Crystal White Pearl, Onyx Black, platinum Grey and Thunder Grey.
The new S90 Recharge T8 is also available for online booking through Volvo Car Malaysia’s website as a safer alternative and in adherence to the government’s standard operating procedures.
