Phase 2 vaccination program begins

The phase 2 of Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) begins today, with priority to be given to senior citizens aged 60 and above, individuals with a history of illness (comorbidities) and People with Disabilities (PWDs).

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (picture) said this phase will be conducted in stages with 30 Vaccination Centers (PPV) opened today in Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Penang, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

He added that about 500,000 teachers, including from the private sector will be inoculated in this second phase. 

A total of 9,916 individuals have been scheduled to receive vaccine injections today.

The highest vaccination recorded is in Dewan 2020, Perlis, where 924 persons have been vaccinated.

Dr Adham said in total, up to 1,438,974 senior citizens (60 years and above) have registered for vaccination, while 2,029,297 number of individuals with comorbidities have registered for NIP as well.

There are 136,798 persons with disabilities who have registered for the vaccine so far.

The phase 1 vaccination program is still ongoing with 258,783 frontline personnel have yet to complete their second dose injection.
