SHOPEE Malaysia has introduced a new feature through its mobile wallet, ShopeePay, aimed at driving its users to offline merchants, offering deals and promotions in the immediate vicinity.

‘Deals Near Me’ is an online-to-offline (O2O) feature that uses a location-based service to provide users with ShopeePay vouchers from merchants nearby for food and beverage outlets and services.

Merchants featured include Nasi Kandar Pelita, Nando’s, TGI Friday’s, Boat Noodle, Johnny’s, Oldtown White Coffee, J.Co Donut and Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart.

ShopeePay Malaysia head Alain Yee (picture) said providing the right deals has proven to lead to higher sales, which has been important for the recovery of businesses, especially those in the service sector.

“When we unofficially launched ‘Deals Near Me’ two weeks ago, it actually brought a footfall of over 100,000 users to the 130 merchants that adopted this feature.

“It is easy for users to view and choose the deals that are close to them, which make it more relevant,” he said during the press conference yesterday.

Yee said the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted shopping and consumption habits, and in turn, has raised the importance for offline merchants to reach customers in new ways.

“Users can easily purchase vouchers on the Shopee app, and redeem them immediately at participating outlets to enjoy attractive cashback when they pay with ShopeePay.

“We also believe this new feature creates a win-win situation for both our users and participating merchants as we enable a convenient, seamless and rewarding shopping experience,” he said, adding that this is a testament to how e-commerce and traditional businesses can work together.

“Traffic has been going strong, we have seen more and more people shop on the platform, so we are very optimistic and will continue to work with more merchants and provide the best deals possible,” he said.

Yee said the ShopeePay e-wallet has grown from strength to strength and is unique for various reasons.

“ShopeePay allows users to use the e-wallet from offline to online and is simple enough for cash users to transition to it. ShopeePay is also the only e-wallet currently that allows users to withdraw balance from the e-wallet into their bank account and users can top up at any 7-Eleven convenience store,” he said.

In conjunction with the “Raya Bersama Shopee” campaign and being in the current fasting month, Yee said there will be specially-curated vouchers available at three different times of the day: Sahur Specials at 5am, Jom Berbuka dengan ShopeePay at 12pm and Moreh Specials at 10pm.

“The ‘Raya Bersama Shopee’ campaign will also offer users free shipping with no minimum spend and deals from as low as RM1. We will have two special days for users to look out for — the Jualan Hebat Raya on April 23, 2021, and Pesta Jualan Raya on May 5, 2021.

“There will be offerings of discounts on home appliances, furniture, Hari Raya outfits, decorations and more in preparation for Hari Raya,” Yee said.

Shopee Malaysia senior manager (marketing) Tan Ming Kit said the platform will also allow users to give back to those in need under the #ShopeeGivesBack umbrella.

“We also want to use our plat- form’s capabilities to offer people the means to do good. This campaign will allow users to donate to Budimas Charitable Foundation, Pertubuhan Kasih Neelofa, Protect and Save the Children, SimplySiti Di Hati, Shelter Home for Children, Ukhwah for Ummah and more, to provide financial aid to underprivileged children and families.

“Additionally, celebrities such as Siti Nordiana, Izzue Islam and Farahanim Razak will discuss social issues and their views on charity on Shopee Live at 3pm every Friday during the campaign,” Tan said.
