SMART Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) is inviting businesses to join its “e-Souq” online bazaar, which is registered on the Maybank Sama-Sama Lokal platform.
SSDU MD Dr Fahmi Ngah (picture) said SSDU has approached 2,500 registered bazaar traders where 200 have agreed to get on board.
Sama-Sama Lokal is a zero-commission platform created by Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) to support local businesses by helping them establish their presence online.
Fahmi said the collaboration with Maybank aims to open up opportunities for traders on the e-Souq online store on Sama-Sama Lokal, to sell iftar cuisines and Hari Raya products online as an alternative, or complementary to the existing physical Ramadhan bazaar.
He said by signing up to Sama- Sama Lokal, the merchants will also be eligible for delivery services provided by third-party delivery agents.
According to Fahmi, this collaboration is expected to expand the Ramadhan e-bazaar programme wider across Selangor.
“The presence of the e-Souq store on Maybank’s Sama-Sama Lokal platform will expand marketing opportunities for traders and pro-vide alternative iftar delivery services for the public.
“Traders have the option of trading online or at physical bazaar sites using cashless payment methods, while the public can buy their iftar food and Raya items either at the bazaar sites or from the comfort of their home or office,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Fahmi added that the effort is in line with the Smart Economy objectives to promote a state-wide cashless digital economy, as well as implement digitalisation elements to help merchants grow their businesses online.
He said even those who do not have registered businesses can be part of the free platform.
Besides, customers who purchase from e-Souq through the Sama-Sama Lokal platform will enjoy more incentives as the platform offers free delivery services to all destinations within a radius of 5km to 10km from the bazaar’s locations.
Last year, the Movement Control Order and the Covid-19 pandemic accelerated the e-commerce growth, as people were told to stay at home to minimise physical contacts at retail and shopping outlets.
For instance, the Selangor E-Bazar 11.11 Mega Sales Campaign, held last year from Oct 26 to Dec 15, reported RM32 million in direct sales and RM1.04 billion in its multiplier effect on the economy.
Through the programme, Selangor channelled RM2 million in the form of vouchers for the campaign which onboarded 26,744 new e-merchants, benefitting a total of 73,791 e-merchants. It was a 267% increase from the initial target of 10,000 new e-merchants.
The E-Bazar 11.11 campaign also saw a 274% increase in direct sales and a 307% increase in ripple effect to the state economy, compared to the Selangor E-Bazar Raya Campaign held from May 4 to July 4, 2020.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said SSDU will be promoting more cashless payment using Maybank Scan & Pay (previously known as Maybank QRPay) at various Ramadhan bazaars under the purview of the 12 local councils in Selangor beginning April 13.
