Seven districts in Kelantan to undergo MCO

The government has agreed to implement the Movement Control Order (MCO) at seven districts in Kelantan from April 16 until April 29.

The decision was made after the Health Ministry reported a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases positive cases in Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Machang
Tumpat and Tanah Merah.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement today that there was a 30.5% increase in positive cases in the state within 14 days i.e. from 756 cases to 1,088 cases.

In addition, nine new clusters have been reported in a period of 14 days with the high rate of infectivity in the community, Ismail Sabri said.

Effective today, the Health Ministry has also given power to issue compound to the Mayor, local council heads and local councils’ enforcement officers grade 19 and above to issue compound on any offense under the Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988).

They will be able to compound on any non-compliance of SOPs in Ramadan bazaars.

“Local authorities are urged to take appropriate action in ensuring the implementation of the SOP issued by the National Security Council (NSC) and Health Ministry  are complied with completely.

“The public also needs to cooperate with the local authorities in curbing the Covid-19 transmission,” Ismail Sabri said.
