A third of daily new Covid-19 cases detected in Selangor


The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 2,154 new Covid-19 positive cases in the country today, of which 2,149 were local transmissions and five were import cases.  

Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor records the highest daily cases today with 794 cases, followed by Johor with 463 cases and Sarawak with 250 cases.

Other states which contributed to the daily rise include Penang with 119 new cases, Perak (109), Kuala Lumpur (108), Sabah (97), Negri Sembilan (77), Kelantan (57), Pahang (38) and Terengganu (16).

Melaka recorded ten new cases today, followed by Kedah (nine), Putrajaya (four), Labuan (two) and Perlis (one).

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry has detected ten new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours.

He noted that eight of them were linked to workplace clusters, one was a community cluster and another involved a religious activity.

The increase in the new cases today has brought the country‚Äôs overall total to 310,097.            

There are now 22,034 active Covid-19 cases that are being treated at health facilities nationwide.          

Among the active cases today, 184 were placed in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 87 of them requiring respiratory aid.              

A total of 3,275 patients have been discharged, increasing the total recovered cases in the country to 286,904, which equals to 92.5%.                    

Six new deaths were reported today, increasing the overall Covid-19 death toll to 1,159.
