Flood situation in Sarawak improving


KUCHING — Floodwaters in two districts in Sarawak continue to recede this morning with the number of evacuees housed in temporary relief centres dropping to 813 people from 823 people reported yesterday.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat, 12 flood evacuees taking shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Puteh, Serian have been allowed to go home, taking the total number of flood victims housed at the relief centre to 338.

However, the number of evacuees in Dewan Serbaguna Ranchan, also in Serian, has increased from 33 people to 35 people as at 8am today.

There are three more relief centres currently operating in the district, namely Dewan Kampung Slabi Entukuh with 42 victims, Dewan Masyarakat Serian (148) and Dewan Kampung Rimba Padi (75).

Besides Serian, the Simunjan district is also affected by the flood with 175 people currently housed in four relief centres.

Of the total, 96 victims are housed at the Dewan Mesra Simunjan; Dewan Kampung Entangor, Sebuyau (40); Dewan Masyarakat Lubok Buntin (27) and Kampung Seruyuk Mosque, Sebuyau (12).
