Two more districts in Sarawak to undergo MCO

TWO districts in Sarawak will undergo the Movement Control Order (MCO) from Feb 2 until Feb 15 due to sharp increase of Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said these districts are Song and Kapit.

Song which was previously in the green zone area had detected 93 new cases while Kapit, which previously saw zero cases had reported 31 cumulative cases to date.

“These two districts have reported staggering increase in the new cases with high infectivity rate for the past 14 days,” Ismail Sabri said in a statement today.

Prior to this, Sarawak state government had announced that the MCO in Sibu will be extended until Feb 14 while the rest of the state is under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Meanwhile, the government also decided to enforce the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Simpang Renggam Prison and Staff Quarters in Kluang, Johor from tomorrow until Feb 14.

As of January 29, 2021, the Health Ministry has conducted 198 screening tests where 108 have been tested positive for Covid-19 involving 100 detainees, 6 staff and 2 close contacts.

The implementation of EMCO is to facilitate the targeted screening on all detainees, staff and close contacts involved to ensure there is no transmission of infection in the community, said Ismail Sabri.
